Recently retired Essendon ruckman Thomas Bellchambers has been announced as hair loss ambassador for boutique medical spa Elucell.
It was an easy decision for Bellchambers who started noticing hair thinning 12 – 18 months ago. “Now that I’ve finished football, it’s time to do something about it.” The pressure to have a full head of hair is magnified on the football field. “You’re on TV once a week and there could be up to a million people watching…It probably gets laughed off as a joke, but whether you like it or not, you’re in the limelight and it can become a little bit embarrassing,” Bellchambers said.
Bellchambers recent engagement to Actress Olympia Valance was another good reason to seek some professional help in the hair department. “I want to look good for my wife-to-be,” Bellchambers shared.
The former AFL star started receiving PRP treatment for hair loss at Elucell in December 2020. With no downtime, PRP injections have quickly become one of the go-to non-surgical treatment options for people with thinning and balding hair. “My first experience at Elucell was smooth sailing and the treatment was really straightforward.”
PRP injections involve extracting plasma from the patient’s own blood and injecting it into areas of the scalp that have experienced hair loss or thinning. PRP seeks to reverse the early stages of hair loss by lengthening the active phase of the hair cycle and stimulating hair follicle growth. The procedure takes about 60 minutes and is performed every 4 weeks for 6 – 12 treatments.
According to Healthy Male (Andrology Australia) most Australian men will become aware of hair loss as they grow older. Significant balding affects about one in five men (20%) in their 20s, about one in three men (30%) in their 30s and nearly half of men (40%) in their 40s.
Located next to Epworth Hospital on Bridge Road, Elucell opened its doors in November 2020. In line with its mantra “Our Science. Your Confidence”, Elucell focuses on natural, regenerative medicine backed by a team of expert doctors and nurses.
